Great pics... I heard about you for the first time when you taped an interview with Democracy Now's Amy Goodman. I am finally glad that news anchors here in the US have someone to talk to that has some command on English. I am Algerian and I am sooooooooooo tired of most people thinking that we Algerians all speak French... I do but I know that's basically a useless language nowadays... We have so many people who confirm this stereotype... I just wish that when the winds of change really hit the shores of Algeria, news channels will have people to talk to on the ground rather than the usual 70's stuck people with their imaginary thoughts that people understand french... The egyptians were so effective in talking to Al jazeera English, CNN, MSNBC and others...

Dear Elias,
Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures.
It is such a beautiful country, and the way you show it to the world is wonderful.
If you like, you can have a look at some of my pictures.
Some of them are made in Alger and Ghardahia too, even some pictures in Tipasa or Cherchell.
If you like, then have a look in the maps; "moments in my memory", "special or nice places" , and "ruines".
There are more pictures from different countries but i'm sure you'll find the ones.
The album cover of "Moments in my memory" speaks for it selfs.....!!
We share a feeling that lives deep in our heart.
Thank you again for sharing, here is my url to my pictures; www.picasaweb.google.com/eakuipers

Greetings

Mounib is doing great and full of energy. I stopped by yesterday 6/15/08 to visit him. He¡¦s getting better and better. This time Mounib is no more laying down on his bed. He¡¦s sitting on his own Med Chair; talking, smiling and conversing. He was sharing his contentment and playing with my two little daughters. It was such a great time and funniest moment when I saw him telling my daughter in his own words when she wanted to play with his toys particularly his car, ¡§Nou-Di! Nou-Di! HADIK TO-MO-BIL TA3 MOUNIB¡¨ƒºƒºƒº He even learned to speak some words in English.
Mounib is scheduled for a full time physical therapy. His mom told me that starting from today 6/16/08 he will be moving to another building to complete his 8 hrs a day physical therapy for some period of time.
His Physical therapy include Range of motion (ROM) exercises, mobility skills and the training for sitting and standing to achieve more independence. Some times within his schedule, Therapist will use some animals such as cats and dogs as stimulation methods to help Mounib develop good gestures skills and vision.

For the Algerian, Moroccans and all the people who made a positive input to help Mounib I will say ZAZAKOUM ALLAH KOULA KHAIR. We also say thank you to Elias, Smail (aaagw) and special thank you to Smail Ait Ali (Moroccan guy).
Some people said we won¡¦t stop here! that what Dr. Azzedine Stambouli said when I met him in Rochester and Minneapolis. He told me I hope that Mounib grow up and become a neurologist.
Mr. Azzedine, you are a man of hope, hold on to this positive approach and one day Mounib will be a neurologist Incha-Allah.
Let me share this story with you, most of us know the story of Suraka ibn Malik when the Prophet Mohamed peace be upon him asked Suraka, "How would you like to wear the robes of Chosroes (the King of Persia)?"
Suraka was astonished and knew that the word of the Prophet (sa) would surely be fulfilled. Suraka kept the hope for a while. After more than 13 years from the death of our prophet Mohamed Peace be upon him the promise made to Suraka was fulfilled during the caliphate of Omar may Allah be pleased with him when the possessions of Chosroes came into the keeping of Omar. Omar was an upright caliph and had heard Suraka¡¦s story and in obedience to the Prophet (sa) and in the honorable spirit of Islam, Omar sent for Suraka and placed the crown of Persia upon his head then gave him the regalia and belt of Chosroes and told him tell the people your story. (See his story in Islamic books for further details).
We HOPE that our government makes it easy for the Algerian & American doctors who are willing to help AYOUB and other people with Spina Bifida.
Concerning Mounib¡¦s mother, she¡¦s in high spirits.
Thank you all and have a great day.
Salam
Abdessamad

To Elias. Thanks for the Hard work
Here is some news about Mounib per date/ 05-21-08 @ 8:00PM
Salam Alikoum

I visited Mounib’s Family yesterday and stayed couple hours with them along with other family. The Mom is really happy and comfortable; you can tell from her face. She can’t stop showing how lucky she is, praising Allah all the time. She gets a very good entourage, a private room with her son in the hospital, They provide her with a free high speed internet laptop, her family from Algeria are contacting her through ooVoo, she got all the TV channels she want sush as Arab Channel, Al-Jazeera, etc. she’s performing her prayers with other people in the hospital. The modern small town of Rochester has a Mesdjid where she can do her Jumua (Friday) prayer. They took her to McDonalds she get a French and Arabic interpreter. About 2 miles from the hospital beside the Mesdjid there is a Halal Pakistani and Somalian restaurant. For her it dreams come through

Mounib seems in stable condition. He gets an intensive care performed by a specialized crew. His mom told me that he lost some weight but he’s eating well. More than 10 staff and doctors come to visit him 24 hours a day. Nurses took him to the play ground they taught him some drawing and make him print his own art electronically. He is in a very nice crib with a lot of toys. Of course he needs some time to get ready for his surgery. May Allah help him? Over all everything is going smoothly.

He is in St. Mary Mayo Francis Building a few blocks from Hwy 52. Travelers! If you take Hwy 52 south exit on 2nd street and tern left drive about 1 minute the Francis building is in your right hand side. People need to provide his Last Name Mounib FERCHICHI to receptionist. Call this number for more info about Mounib 507-284-2511 or 507-255-5123. You need to give them his last name in order to serve you better. Visitors are welcome at any time. After 9pm they should call and get a pass to his room.
Going forward I will try my best to keep you update.

Note: I know Mounib 's Room # and his contact # too. It is up to you Elias if you want me to post it for the public or not!

Best regards
Abdessamad Serir

Dear Lias. I only came across your material recently. Well done on a commandable initiative and best of luck in everything you do.
re: injustice en algerie, I send you an article about the revenue of oil and gas for info. So irresponsible what is happening back home.
==============================
OPEC Revenues: Country Details
Algeria
Algeria's oil and natural gas export revenues account for more than 95% of Algeria's total export revenues, around 70% of total fiscal revenues, and 40% of gross domestic product (GDP). The combination of strong oil prices and higher net oil exports since 1999 has resulted in significantly higher oil export revenues for Algeria -- an estimated $22.7 billion in 2004 -- up 32% from $17.2 billion in 2003 and more than quadruple the $5.7 billion earned in 1998. For 2005 and 2006, Algeria's net oil export revenues are forecast at about $30 billion each year on higher net oil exports and oil prices.
In October 2004, Algeria unveiled its draft budget for 2005. The budget calls for increased social spending and assumes economic growth of 5.3%, and a $19 per barrel price for Algerian oil. The oil price assumption appears to be extremely conservative, considering that prices in 2004 averaged around $19 per barrel higher than this. Revenues earned from oil prices above the budgeted assumptions are to be channeled into a "stabilization fund." Including the stabilization fund, Algeria's foreign reserves reached around $30 billion by the end of 2003. In comparison, Algeria's total external debt was estimated at around $20 billion -- and falling -- at the end of 2002.
Algeria's real GDP grew by more than 6% in 2004, with continued strong real growth (around 6.4%) also expected in 2005 and 2006, as both oil and natural gas export revenues increase. With rapid population growth, Algeria's top priority is to reduce the country's extremely high unemployment rate (estimated at around 50% for the "under-30s" age group). Officially, structural reforms and fiscal discipline remain important parts of the government's economic program, as urged by the International Monetary Fund. To date, however, little in the way of reform has moved ahead. However, an important hydrocarbons reform bill, which among other things would "corporatize" state oil company Sonatrach, was approved by Parliament early 2005 after stalling out for a while. Part of reason for the lack of progress on privatization in recent years is that high oil and gas revenues tended to reduce any sense of urgency in pushing forward with such changes.
Algeria had net oil exports of 1.7 million barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil in 2004, with 1.8 million bbl/d expected in both 2005 and 2006. This represents a sharp increase in just the past few years (i.e., 1.2 million bbl/d in 2000), and very well could continue given Algeria's ambitious oil production expansion plans. Algeria produces around 1.3 million bbl/d of crude oil, well over its OPEC crude output quota of 878,000 bbl/d, not including large volumes of natural gas liquids and condensates the country also produces.
Besides oil, Algeria is a large and growing natural gas exporter, both by pipeline (to Europe) as well as by liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker. In the long run, export revenues from natural gas exports are likely to grow in importance as new fields (like In Salah and In Amenas) come online. A short-term setback occurred, however, on January 19, 2004, with a boiler explosion at the Skikda LNG export terminal, Algeria's second largest next to Arzew. The blast killed at least 27 people and shut down operations at several adjacent facilities, including a refinery and crude oil and petroleum product loading terminals. Three liquefaction trains (out of six) at Skikda were heavily damaged, accounting for 11% of Algeria's total LNG capacity. Energy Minister Chekib Khelil has promised to build two new LNG trains in Skikda, with double the capacity of the three destroyed units and utilizing the most advanced technology. The cost of rebuilding could approach $800 million.

salam my brother hayouni,i would say your message is a pure hatred towards your brothers in Algeria, let me tell you that you do not represent Morrocans for Morrocans are our brothers and we in Algeria are looking forward to work and cooperate with our neighbours and eventually open the borders which were drawn by the imperialists, you should stop spreading hatred it is simply counterproductive,By the way i am a Filali and guess what Mohamed the 6th is a Filali too,(does that ring a bell)and if you know your history you know that Morrocans an Algerians are from the same origins and one blood ,one day the borders will disappear,Algerians and Morrocans will walk freely towards eachother in a brotherly way without restrictions and work together ans prosper together,Those narrowminded zealots will never succeed to separate the people of one nation ,one religion, one language and one culture, history will inshallah prove me right and throw you in the recycle bin of history, ameen!and all can say to you Mister Hayouni is salam (wa itha khatabahoumou el jahilouna kaalou salaamaa,Longlive Algeria long live Morrocco.

Dear Elias

Your photographs are amazing - It really make me feel as visiting your country!
I am Portuguese and for some years I was living in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital city where in the old town you still find traces of ancient Arab occupation. It was amazing to find similarities between some of the urban places that I most appreciate in Lisbon and some of the photos you have of traditional Algerian neighbourhoods.

In Lisbon, part of the old town is called Alfama which I believe is a word that evolve from some ancient Arab name and another area is called Mouraria, which means something like the Moorish Town. You should visit it one day and keep up with your brilliant photographic report!

Take care
Isabel

Thank you for your comment. It's always greatful to read comments from someone who loves taking photos.Thank you again! Your photos are touching my heart, and you know what?I think that taking living creatures' photos is hard to me,for it's hard to catch those moments right and I really appreciate what you had done.Good for you!

Hello Elias,
Thank you for visiting my galleries and the very nice compliment. I have only been taking photos for a year now. I learnt pretty much everything I know by trial and error. For all of my macro pictures I always us a tripod and a remote. I use the remote to prevent any shaking of the camera while pressing down on the shutter. I also like natural lighting I try not to use my flash very much but sometimes you just have to. I hope these little tips might help you in the future. Just keep on taking pictures and you'll improve thats what I do.

Cheers

Hi, Elias
Thanks for your comments on my gallery from British Columbia. I especially enjoyed your old and young faces gallery. You can tell a lot about a person by what he finds fascinating in his local surroundings. Keep up the good work as I love to see different places. I will be looking to see what is new at your site often.
Best to you and your family
Rick

Hi, Elias. I'd also like to thank you for visiting my galleries and for the good things you said there. I want to thank you too, for inviting me here to your own galleries of images from your beautiful Algeria. I didn't know you had so much Roman heritage there; my Uncle(from WW2) said it was a fantastic place for history, but just how fanstastic I can only thank you for showing me. Your pictures of people are really very good and sympathetic. I know that in parts of the Islamic world it is believed that one should not make photographs of God's people or his creatures; but when used with respect and to help us appreciate and understand the world which we share, I cannot see how it can be considered anything other than good. Your photographs of Andalusia are beautiful, and the ceramics are nicely presented too. Look forward to seeing more of your work on PBase.
