Bejaia is a port town .it is built in a beautifull spot:it's in the flank of jebel gouraya,at the eastern end of the gulf of bejaia
The city itself is very pleasant,and the view out over the harbour ,the bay and the mountains from la place du 1er novembre,the beach in tichi is the best in the country and there is a good sceneery as you walk in cap carbon and around ,it is so beautifull and stunning and i ll promess you will not see anything like it across the entire meditraneen region
In roman times the town was called Saldae. When it became a major town of the Hammadites chief amir Ennasser it really prospered and was renamed Ennassiria
ennasser's son ,El Mansour,built a beautiful palace within the fortification built by his father.The last Hammadite ruler,Yahia,ruled over a town which flourished on the trade in goods across the Sahara and grew to over 100 000 inhabitants.
The downfall of the Hammadite empire came in 1152,when allmohad ruler abdelmoumen invaded it from Morocco .In the 13th century the town became part of the Hafsid empire,when the dynasty came to power in tunis.
after a troublsome centuries of piracy across the meditaraneen the town was brought to attention and was invaded by the spaniards after they beseiged it in 1509.the turks came after to releive and support their muslim brothers in 1955 ,The french were the last to occupy bejais in 1833
