Driving In Style, Arenal-Monteverde

Driving in Costa Rica is not fun. Once you get off the main road, the driving becomes a true challenge. Serpantines of dirt roads without pavement are running at 15 to 30 degree inclines, the potholes are all over the place and could be as deep as 12-20", very often the width of the road does not allow 2 vehicles to pass by in either direction, mudslides could be seen almost every 10th kilometer or so, the road signs are very rare and extremely confusing, so it's total nightmare... One wrong turn of steering wheel or poor decision will send the car in to either a flight from the edge of cliff, or, best case scenario, serious accident... Unless you are very experienced and good driver don't commit suicide by jumping behind the wheel of the car in Costa Rica, and also never ever drive in the night time, you'll never make it to destination !

Who but you would have put the red car in, which just "makes it for me".....The depth you achieve is amazing. almost as good as being there.....and not as dangerous !! :-)

Amigo, it's all matter of taste and personal goals to achieve during the trip. If I were to plan going for frontal collision and ending up at the bottom of the cliff, then I would've gone to CR again without any hesitation... Otherwise I would rather refrain, LOL !

I would go again without giving it a second thought. Once I got out of San Jose it was a snap. Yes, the roads are a bit...primative (Arenal to Monte Verde is a bitch), but I got used to it. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Yes...a terrific composition, gorgeous colours & great depth. You know, this is so like an off road track over the South Downs here in England... the hills and trees in the folds.....really....except the soil isn't red.

Wow. Great Landscape / Perpective photo. Wonderfully dreamy, surrealistic photo with excellent colors and dof. Excellent dramatic sky, and the color, details and textures of the windy road as it leads the viewer's eyes down into the valley is a deliciously evil artistic device. The car on the left with (I am guessing) Vera inside adds real conext to this shot... and gives the viewer a sense of scope and scale. Remarkable photo. Michael.

Instead of messing up the framing the red car gives perspective and meshes twith the color scheme. Voted
