CIRCUMSTANCES;

Bonampak (Ḅonam Pak' Painted Wall in Modern Maya) is an ancient Maya archaeological site in the Mexican state of Chiapas. While the site is not overly impressive in terms of spatial or architectural size, it is well-known for a number of murals, most especially those located within Structure 1 (The Temple of the Murals). The construction of the site’s structures dates to the Early Classic period (ca. A.D. 580 to 800).The paintings show the story of a single battle and its victorious outcome.

Very beautiful and colourful murals.
What a tough time you seemed to be having in order to record all these fabulous sights for mankind to enjoy. I feel a medal for bravery and endurance must be in the pipeline....somewhere!

A superb shot, especially considering the difficult lighting.

Unfortunately, I cannot make Bonampak being part of my living room, but, I can confess, that this is the only one ( more to follow ) and very best representation of the Mayan frescoes elsewhere, no kidding. You would't see it anywhere just like this http://www.pbase.com/eldarrio/image/119180526 unless you're Indiana Jones, LOL ! Many shots I am going to post are absolutely illegal, but, hey, that's what I am anyways ! LOL

Hello O Evil One. Nothing like a fine Mayan Mural to question our artistic tastes and values. Obviously painted, perhaps over a thousand years ago, the abstract nature of the lines, colors and subject matter, make it the work of an artist that could have been been an associate of Picasso, Miro or Kandinsky. Wouldn't this work of art, perhaps mounted and unframed look great on your living room wall? But you know, amigo, the thing I like most about this unbelievable work of art is all the tubular and rounded objects that are interwoven within.... this suggest pervasive and rampant sexuality throughout Mayan culture. No wonder you were so brilliantly tuned into this work. Oy. Michael.
