Volcano Popocatepetl

Volcano Popocatepetl

Temperature; +26C Wind; 2 m/sec Rain; None

THINGS THAT WENT WRONG;

a. Batteries on both Pentax and Nikon were depleted unexpectedly, so used old S60 to take a shot
b. Had to park car on the right lane of the highway, so everybody was honking and cursing me...
c. Vera spit chewing gum through the car's window and it hit my neck really hard when I took the shot...
d. Had to balance on the edge of safety rails to get view above the foreground bushes
e. Low 5 Mp resolution small CCD blew highlights on clouds, imposed some grain in skies, and finally pissed me off...

Popocatepetl is an active volcano and, at 5,426 m (17,800 ft), the second highest peak in Mexico after the Pico de Orizaba (5,636 m/18,490 ft). Popocatepetl is linked to the Iztaccehuatl volcano to the north by the high saddle known as the Paso de Cortes, and lies in the eastern half of the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt.

The name Popocatepetl comes from the Nahuatl words popØca 'it smokes' and tepetl 'mountain', thus Smoking Mountain; the name Don Goyo comes from the mountain's association in the lore of the region with San Gregorio (St. Gregory), "Goyo" being a nickname-like short form of Gregorio.
