1/29/07 - Straight from the Camera

Unedited, straight from the camera. It may look like an Orton technique image but it's not. (For the uninitiated, Orton is a type of montage - two images overlaid on one another. In the case of Orton, both images are of the same subject - one in sharp focus & one totally out of focus and larger than the sharp image to provide a "glow" around the sharp version).
This image has the same appearance as an Orton, because I lined up two similar buds - precisely with tripod and focus rails - with the nearer about 4" from the lens and the farther about twice that distance. I focused on the farther bud and the the 105mm macro with 1.4X TC threw the nearer totally out of focus (the same effect as if it wasn't there and I had made two images of the far bud per the Orton technique). My point here is that all is not as it might appear.
Not the world's greatest image; posted to make a point to someone who commented that my images were "all lifeless and overedited" and made specific reference to Orton (which I do use and label as a montage in my PAD when that's what it is).
