1/27/07 - Christmas Cactus Macro Macro

This is 1.4X life size (what you see is less than an inch, 2.54cm, long). Set the Nikkor 105mm 1:1 lens to 1:1 (and also add a 1.4X teleconverter) and precisely frame and focus NOT with the focus *ring* (we want to leave that at 1:1) - but by using the obscenely expensive RRS focus *rail*(RR stands for Rolls Royce - or is it really Really Right Stuff). The Really Right Stuff "stuff" is great quality, don't get me wrong - and in this case allows the camera to be moved very precisely in order to focus the subject - in fractions of a millimeter. I just wish that it weren't so expensive - but in this case you do get what you pay for.

Nikon D70s
8s f/32.0 at 105.0mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto
