3/26/06 - Through the Overlook

It's time to come up with an "enhanced print" for April's competition. The Dogwood Lane - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/57375478 - did well in March with a 2nd place. Today's PAD doesn't give me the same warm fuzzy feel that Dogwood Lane did. It's different from all of my previous "out-of-frames". Previous ones always had some part of the out of frame portion of the image also inside the frame. This one is all out. Maybe my unease is just due to the change.
This is a composite made up of these two images - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/36015466 - and - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/35063183

Nikon D70
1/100s f/16.0 at 18.0mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

I agree with Bryan, the subject is the framed scene. The person is either viewing that framed picture or walking into it? If he is viewing it, there should be more of him, both shoulders, possibly head turned a little more. The framed picture would look like it's hanging on a wall, a museum wall, more white space, hung over to the right. Then the two connect, the museum visitor with a backpack, looking at the scene of his desires :).

Ed This is very nice. What I see different from last month was that the dogwood connected with the scene physically, there's nothing here really showing this person is actually part of the scene not just looking in on a picture. If the latter is the effect you want then maybe a shadow of the viewer on the frame. Just a thought. Very nice shot. -BJ
