5/16/05 - 9 Shot Multiple Exposure

Tiny (1/2 inch) white, pink and blue flowers - mostly blue in this shot. The image is about 1 foot across. Nine shots using a tripod. After each shot the camera is rotated and zoomed. A specific part of the scene (in this case the tiny white flower near the upper left corner) is kept precisely in the same spot in the frame (viewfinder). This ends up being the center of rotation. Holding this spot fixed is easy with the D70 since it has an on demand grid in the viewfinder - I held the white flower fixed at the interesection of two grid lines. This is an addictive technique - like opening a package containing a surprise. You're never sure what you're going to get. Another bonus - you don't need a really expensive lens. Any inexpensive zoom will do since everything gets all mushed together and all of those factors like distortion, sharpness, aberation, etc. don't make any difference.

What a neat technique. Thanks for explaining it. It has a real impressionist sort of feel to the final image.
