Outside to try the new 1.4 teleconverter with the Tamron 70-300 macro-zoom. There was some question about the auto focus performance with the lens zoomed to 300 (f5.6 at this focal length). Worked like a charm. This combination is going to be great for critters large and small. I'll be able to get almost 1:1 with a 3 foot working distance - great for skitttish critters like dragon flies. At the 300 mm end (plus the 1.5x D70 crop factor, plus the 1.4x from the TC) I've got the 35mm equivalent of 630mm. Got two of the heron eating dinner and had to zoom out because the combo got me too close - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/38639906 and http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/38639928
