Added the final lens to my D70 kit - a Tamron 70-300 1:2 Macro. It's all I hoped it would be in terms of providing a good working distance with decent magnification ratio for close up work. I'd have had no chance of getting this dragon fly with the CP5700 (1:3) at 1 inch focus distance, or the Nikon 105 (1:1) at 12". It would have flown the coop. Here, with the Tamron, I was about 3 feet away and the critter was tolerant of my presence (and more than filled the frame).
Whole new worlds to explore with a range of 18-70 and 70-300 (which is actually 27-105 & 105-450 with the D70) - plus my favorite, the 105mm f2.8 1:1 macro. I also added an ML-3 remote (instead of using the self timer to avoid camera shake - yes, of course the camera's on a tripod) so that the shutter goes off when I want instead of 5 seconds after I push the release. Lots happens in 5 seconds.
