03/02/10 - October 2008 Viewers' Choice (Memorability: Low (score: 0.452 ) Pop:2.969)

Month #54 - Retrospective of Daily Photos posted from 5/04 to 12/09 (most viewers for the month)

October 2008 and I'm well into my 5 years of shooting & posting daily. At this stage - and since - if you asked me to show you an image that typified my style, this might be one. I like prominent foreground elements and lower contrast moody scenes from nature. I find most of these subjects, like this one, within an easy walk of home. It's important to know what is where and when - or as I say, if you can't find something good to shoot close to home why do you think traveling great distances to strange surroundings will help? Here's what I wrote in 10/08 when posting this image -
10/1/08 - Misty Wetland Morning
I'm done with HDR for the time being. It's nice to shoot a normal tonal contrast scene once again. Actually, maybe the reason that I like fog is that, if anything, the contrast is below normal and actually needs cranked up in post processing.
I'm surprised at a number of "name" pro photographers who have gone way over the top in their use of HDR - often for scenes that have absolutely no need for HDR (except to turn a photo into a cartoon). One, in particular, seems to have regressed in his "normal" photography when he takes a break from HDR - not as good as it used to be IMO. But, I guess if I were a pro I'd also have to chase every new camera, program, gadget and craze to be first in line with the latest book or workshop - or else starve.

It is nice. I though of an impressionist painting too. Well done.

Lovely, like a painting. Great foreground interest contrasted against the moody background.--Rene
