1/9/10 - Dec. 2004 Viewers' Choice (Memorability: High (score: 0.822 ) Pop:4.622)

Month #8 - Retrospective of Daily Photos posted from 5/04 to 12/09 (most viewers for the month)

12/04 - Back in the good old days when I routinely went out every single day - rain, shine, freezing temps, whatever....

This poor Great Blue Heron seemed colder than the photographer. It was standing on a sheet of ice and I really felt sorry for it - more because its food was on the other side of the ice than because of the cold. Two GHB's are year round residents and I don't know how (or why) they do it. Back at this time I was really into trying to capture these birds with my 300mm plus 1.4X TC for a 35mm 620 mm equivalent (taking into account the D70's 1.5x factor).

Nikon D70
1/320s f/8.0 at 300.0mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto
