7/25/08 - Low Key Sunrise

Shot this with a grad ND filter to handle the large tonal contrast between the upper & lower halves of the image. This, coupled with the low morning light and exposing for the bright areas while shooting into the sun, gave me a dark saturated image with silhouettes. I took it even a step further when processing the RAW file and made the final image very low key. A light mist on the water gave the surface a nice glow.
I used to get up to shoot every morning well before sunrise for about three years and then gave it up almost a year ago. This morning I decided to walk to the end of the street before the sun got too high. I'll have to get back in the groove.

Recently back from vacationing on a small lake, you make me nostalgic for what we had to leave. Beautifully done; the mist is an exquisite accent, as are the reflected light beams through the trees.

Dawn is my favorite time of day to shoot; every sunrise is different...as is every day. Well worth getting up for! :)
