Carter’s mustard is a slender annual herb, reaching usually 2 feet tall or more. The leaves are pale green with wedge-shaped bases. The many white flowers occur in dense, showy, terminal rounded clusters. Flowers from September through October. The very narrow fruiting pods arch downward. Only found on the Lake Wales Ridge, Florida, it occurs in sandhills, scrub, scrubby flatwoods, and xeric hammocks. It is usually seen only after fire or in disturbed areas. Also known as Carter’s warea or Carter’s pinelandcress. Listed as endangered federally and by the state of Florida.
