A pagan temple in Greek style originally constructed in the reign of Marcus Agrippa in 27 BCE. Rebuilt extensively
after earthquake damage in the 1st century CE. Became a Christian church in 608. Has suffered a number of indignities,
including the bronze covering of its dome being stripped and used to create the baldachin in St. Peter's in the early 1600s.
