In keeping with yesterdays photo regarding Madelyn's surgery, here is what it actually looks like. The white disk is just a protective piece that will be removed in a week, and the only remaining evidence will be a small "post" protruding from the skin graft under the disk and dressing above. Sorry for the gruesome photo, but this is a part of Madelyn's life, and this what this this website/photo blog is about! It looks worse than it actually is, because the original bloody surgical gauze is still on.

I hope she heals quickly. I don't know if you remember me, but I'm the deaf pad photographer. I wrote to you about Cued Speech I believe.

Good to see Madelyn progressing along...love the pics.

My friend who is her late 20's got a C. I. a few weeks ago - I think it has been a lot to adjust to but she is really thrilled. All the best to little Madelyn and you all.

Without her hearing aid, her hearing loss is about 50-70 db, which is classed as moderate-severe hearing loss. The hearing aid she currently uses...the two piece microphone and oscilator bring her hearing to about "normal" levels under good conditions. This new BAHA will be more of an improvement, because it is close to a "direct" connect with her inner ear. (The BAHA oscillates, and the vibration is transmitted directly to the inner ear which interprets the soundkeep the hearing levels the same, but improve the frequency responses, not fall off, help discern some directional, and better "noise" filtering.

Just how much will this proceedure improve Madelyn's hearing?
