Columbine in the Rain

Handheld at 3 stops below the inverse of the focal length as an IS test but not really sharp due to camera motion. Some people may choose not to want IS because of this result but I am amazed at how well this did all things considered. In the first place, the 'rule' for the inverse of the focal length as a hand holdable shutter speed needs to be modified for 1.6x crop cameras. That would make this 105mm shot require 1/168 rather than 1/100. Second, macro considerably stresses my ability to hand hold successfully compared to distant subjects. Third, this was taken while crouching in a wet flower bed and not able to get comfortable for smooth release.

Depending on how you evaluate the factors, this image can be taken as a demonstration of IS success or failure.
