During a December 2006 visit to Edirne I took many pictures, despite the heavy fog on most days. I decided to give the major mosques in this beautiful city a gallery of their own.

The Üç Şerefeli Camii (Mosque with – a minaret with – Three Balconies) was built by Sultan Murat II between 1437-1447. I took mainly shots of the ornaments, many of them on the wall around the mihrab (prayer niche). The mosque has been under restoration for quite some years but in December 2009 (again, wintertime) I returned and saw the restoration had finished, so I decided to show the results. I love the ornamentation on some of the minarets.
