During a December 2006 visit to Edirne I took many pictures, despite the heavy fog on most days. I decided to give the major mosques in this beautiful city a gallery of their own.
This is the Eski Cami or Old Mosque. It was the first Ottoman building in the city (1403-1414). It is an early Ottoman type, with nine domes (three rows of three) supported by four huge columns. It took inspiration from the Ulu Camii in Bursa, and the calligraphic works all over the mosque increase the resemblance. I visited it again in December 2009 and took some more pictures (some turn out to be just repetitions, I'll see to that later). The mosque is under restoration in 2009-2010, don't know how long that will last.
