Variously named Monumental Gate or Main Gate I take the liberty of calling this gate the "Inner City" gate: it is the gate beyond which all is excavations and ancient monuments, within all of a sudden there are tourist services, shops, the whole hubbub.
Slightly before the gate, still outside, you pass the Commercial Agora to the left, the Museum to the bath. Cars pass through the big arch, pedestrians rather go through a small passage to the left of a (relocated) monument to Emperor Vespasian. Once inside the city there is first a temple to the left, a colonnaded street to the right across the street, and then to the left the impressive theatre.
