For the Kastamonu Governorship Monument Building Committee, between 1985 and 1990, Prof. Dr. sculptor Tankut Öktem built the monument. The total height of the monument is 12 meters. It was inaugurated on July 30, 1990.The monument, erected in the largest square of the province, consists of three parts. At the front, Şerife Bacı has become a symbol of heroism Turkish woman's during the War of Independence, behind that are Atatürk and figures representing the Republic of Turkey's Turkish community. In the last part, the forces of the National Forces and the people are represented. She was on a trek together with her child and some other women carrying cannonballs on her oxen-driven tumbrel from İnebolu to Ankara. She was found dead shortly before the Kastamonu Barracks, perished from cold due to severe winter conditions in December 1921.”
