The book I mention in the Karataş gallery claims the ancient city’s history dates from prior to the classical age. The name would be Luwian, from Ma (Mother Goddess), linked to the name of the nearby river. It was transformed into Magarsos later. Alexander the Great is claimed to have offered sacrifices at the Magarsian Athena. I in essence did not see much more than the theatre, which was still being excavated. Back home I read excavations have finished.
