The lavishly decorated ceiling and muqarnas (stalactite) vault of the entrance to the prayer hall of the Sultan Beyazıt II mosque. Classical Ottoman style, early 16th century.
The ‘kitabe’ (building inscription) above the door is dated from 911 H. (= 1506 AD) and mentions ‘Sultan Beyazıd bin Mehmet bin Murat’ (= Beyazıd, son of Mehmet - who was - son of Murat) who had the mosque built.
