An older lady wearing a ‘peçe’, a large rectangular headscarf used outdoors. The dimensions (approximately 160 x 80 cm) make it impractical as a weekday headdress for home. The ‘peçe’-model stands halfway between the smaller (square) ‘yazma’ (the common head scarve) and the very large ‘çarşaf’ from Erzurum, which hides the whole body. This ‘peçe’ is made of printed cotton; in winter it may be replaced by a woollen specimen.
