Silahtarağa group. The battle of the gods and the giants (Gigantomachi). White marble statues of gods and goddesses stand in niches; in front of them are ranged statues of giants, made of black limestone, who are attacking deities. Second half 2nd century AD. Found during rescue excavations in a square room with six niches on the interior and two small adjoining rooms. Water sources and water pipes led to the building. A sacred field one kilometer away, devoted to a water sprite, Semestra, may have been connected to it. It was assumed the structure served a sacred function as a variety of votive statuettes were recovered. It may have been a large fountain, connected to the Semestra field, or a museion, dedicated to the works of the Muses.
