Kars 3784.jpg

A viewer commented (some edits by me): "The monument shows how people of Kars welcomed Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pascha (Atatürk After 1934). (Gazi means warrior who suffered wounds during war in order to defend his/her country. Ataturk was also called “Gazi” since he fell from his horse and broke his ribs when commanding Turkish Armies during Sakarya Battle in 1921 ). The man sitting is Mustafa Kemal. The men in front of him perform folk dances for the honour of Mustafa Kemal. His partner is a woman ( only her arm is seen here). The dance speaks of heroism. The people behind are the people of Kars watching the dance and admiring their saviour."
