Uskudar 0548.jpg

This is the entrance to the Eminzade Hacı Ahmet Paşa complex, he was controller of the Arsenal under Ahmet III. The Strolling through Istanbul guide describes it as “perhaps the last ambitious building complex in the classical style, though verging toward the baroque”. I liked it a lot.

On the picture: The modest main entrance bears an elegant calligraphic ‘kitabe’ (building inscription) above it.
The complex consisted of (apart from the mosque) a dershane/school for dervishes, a library, two fountains (a sebil and a çeşme), a türbe (mausoleum) and a graveyard. It dates from 1722.
