Midyat 1969

A guest wrote: This is the protestant church of Midyat. It is not under use for many years and was being kept by a Kurdish family moved from a village of Midyat. As far as I know there is a family moved from keferze (a village near to Midyat) who takes care of this church as well.

Thanks for the information.

Yes this is an Assyrian Protestant church. I was told it was built early 1900s buy my great great grandparents. Their last name is Shammas. Related, cousins of Galle Hermes (Hermez) who was the mayor of Midyat. Sadly, many were killed I believe in 1915. (approx 70 from the same family)
This information was given to me by my grandmother Tarzo malke "Shammas" by marriage. Maiden name is Hermes. Also, the information was confirmed by relatives too. I actually received an old picture of this teacher ... Taken from awhile back. And the churches was covered with snow. :) Beautiful!

I am sorry, but I don't know the denomination of the several churches I took pictures of. Some were too far off, or had walls surrounding the area. You will have to do with what you see, unless I get some information from people who know the town.
