Caravan

view map

In 1992 or 1993 I saw the originals of what often is only shown in reproduction: a caravan bringing Chinese porcelain across a weird country, with giants looking over hills. Most of these are the originals (a bit more wrinkled).

This is what is normally shown.

Hello Dick !
I am from Calcutta,India.
I am an engineer by profession, but after retirement,I am working on,among other things, Iconography of terra cotta temples of Bengal, the state of India I belong to.

I have a lot of photographs in my HDD , but, unlike you, I have not uploaded them in the Internet. However, your reportaire is much larger.

Coming back to the topic of terra cotta temples, I am writing a page on the scenario of art before 1643 AD when the 1st temple with these panels were built in Bengal. Many artists from Middle-east migrated to India where a treasure of miniature paintings exists.Through Internet search on MEA artists of that period, I reached your page. Some social scenes on these temples show procesions ,somewhat in style of this Caravan !

Interesting !

If you are interested in this art form of Bengal, I can share a few photos with you, which are not linked with Indian/Hindu mythology, but you may be able...based on your experience....to relate with what you have seen during your travel.

May be you like my 'hubs' in hubpages.com/shyamchat

More on receipt of your reply.

Best wishes.
