Afrodisias odeon

view map

One of a series of pictures of the theatre. It dates from the second half of the first century and was rebuilt near the end of the second. On a wall near the north parados (entrance) a set of inscriptions was found from the first half of the third century, with letters and historical annotations, going back to the first century BC.

An Odeion also served as public meeting place. This one dates from 1st and 2nd cent. The beautiful original floor in "opus sectile", kind of mosaic, has been stored elsewhere.
