Istanbul Aya Sofya dome

view map

Almost on every visit I take a picture of the dome (on some visits it was covered by scaffolding due to restoration), which has its highest point at 56 meters. It is slightly elliptical, with 31 meters along the east-west diameter, 33 along the north-south diameter. It has fourty ribs that radiate out from the crown, separated at the base by 40 windows of which 4 were blocked during repairs in the tenth century.

No, I do not have them. Will have to wait until I visit again after the restoration has been finished.

hello, would you by any chance have complete pictures of the multiwinged formations at the 4 corners of the dome?. 2 of them are barely visible here. they are symbols of the 4 evangelists, each identified by the image in it's center, i.e. for John they drew a human face. I would love to see them if you have them.
