Alacahoyuk early bronze age grave

Turkey, Alacahöyük view map

The city contains 13 kings’ graves, containing rich gifts. They are from a pre-Hittite period, when the non-Indo-European Hattites ruled (2350-2100 BC, in the Bronze Age). Some were for single use, some contained two bodies. Some were for men, other for women. The graves were about 1 metre deep, 3 to 8 metres long and 2 to 5 metres wide. The dead were placed in on their right side, in a crouching position, the head towards the West, face towards the South. Almost all funeral gifts are in the Ankara museum (see for that msueum http://www.pbase.com/dosseman/ankara_museum_turkey ), some remained at the Alacahöyük museum.
