Amasya Pontic Tombs

view map

Three of the royal Pontic rock tombs (3th century BC) and (to the right) the entrance of a rock tunnel with stairs, cut out in the same period. The partly restored walls beneath them belong to the fortified palace of the Pontic kings, which was transformed into a (lower) fortress by Romans, Byzantines and Turks. It is now called Kızlar Sarayı (Palace of the Maidens).
