Hittite relief

view map

The Storm-God and a hero/king (?) are killing a lion. Relief from the ‘Heralds Wall’ in Carchemish/Karkamış (on the Euphrates River and on the Turkish-Syrian border, c. 25 km south of Birecik). From the reign of King Katuwa (c. 900 BC). Neo-Hittite, traditional style (except for the beards, which are Aramean).
The upper left corner of the relief is replicated from the original that is currently in the British Museum.
