The Ulu Mosque is a former Christian church that was converted into a mosque in 639, as such it is one of the oldest mosques in Turkey. It is documented that in 770 the building was shared by Christians and Muslims. A fire destroyed much of its structure in 1115. Since then it has been restored several times.
