Rüstem Pasha mosque is from the mid-sixties of the 16th century, when the Ottoman empire was at its peak. The mosque is adorned with Iznik Tiles that are amongst the best in the country. I was told that the awkward display of broken tiles on this picture contains tiles from all over the country, to commemorate a recent restauration. I witnessed some of the restauration (that left the building in prime condition), but can not guarantee the truth of the story. It looks funny, at any rate, and quite artistic.
