Limyra cenotaph of Gaius Caesar 3748.jpg

view map

At last I could get close to what remains of the cenotaph of Gaius Caesar who died in Limyra from a wound received in Armenia in February 4 AD. It was made in Opu Caementum (concrete) technique and covered with marble blocks, parts of which are in the Antalya Museum (see my gallery). The form the monument had is unclear. The Lycian League paid the expenses.
