Statue of Hermes (Mercurius). Found in 1992 in front of the stage of the theatre. Roman, end of second century AD. 2,9 m. high.
Hermes was god of communication, trade, merchants, roads and so forth. The ram next to him can be seen as a continuation of iconography on Anatolian altars. The large wings on his head are also typical of that culture. The statue was placed on the second floor of the stage building together with the large statues of Dionysos, Marsyas and Herakles.
