STATUE OF AN EMPEROR
Marble

Roman Period, 2nd century A.D.
Perge
A statue of a Roman Emperor in armor, caved in a fine grained white marble. This statue lacks a portrait head or any attribute to identify which Roman Emperor it represents.

The statue stands in front of the museum. Hence the wise words in its background, by Atatürk. Google translate puts it as "The way to have a home, it occurred to know the historical events in the land, and recognition through being born with civilization", which is obviously rubbish. I cannot translate it myself, but I think the drift is: to properly be an inhabitant of a country, one has to know its history and have knowledge of the civilizations it contained.
