Stelae of promise. Also called Kakosbos they had an important place in the cultural wealth of Kibyra, northwest region of Lycia. They were used as a means of keeping one’s promise to the gods upon the realisation of a wish. On such stelae generally a cavalry man holding the club of Hercules riding a horse to the right is carved. On the pedestal of such a stelae the reason of the promise, the name of the person who had the wish and the name of the god to whom was vowed are inscribed.
