Hierapolis Tomb 56 5013.jpg

Tomb 56 (2nd century AD)
The tomb is surrounded by a wall with sarcophagi’it rests on a base with steps and has a bench placed in front of it with lions paws on the side facing the road. The roof, consisting of five slabs of travertine ending in a projecting cornice, supported two sarcophagi. The pilasters mark the corners of the façade, in which two marble plaques are inserted. The interior is closed off by a stone door with a metal locking system; along the walls are the funerary beds and an ossuary is carved out of the floor.
