For years I have thought that Göreme was overrated: it supposedly was a very typical Cappacodian village, with a relaxed attitude and fine facilities for tourists. I know I have a certain dislike of crowds, and when visiting Göreme on a busy day that's what I saw: lots of busses, tourists filling the terraces of restaurants and chatting in languages I understand only too well, brrr. Then I visited Göreme on an overcast March 2005 day, not a tourist in sight, and decided to give the village a fair chance. To my surprise it turned out to be much more attractive then I had always thought. Here are some pictures to illustrate that.

GÖREME KÖYÜ

Yıllarca, Göreme’nin abartılan bir yer olduğunu düşünmüştüm: oranın, rahat atmosferi ve turistler İçin hoş tesisleriyle tipik bir Kapadokya köyü olduğu söyleniyordu. Kalabalıklardan hiç hoşlanmadığımı biliyorum, ve hareketli bir günde Göreme’yi ziyaret ettiğimde gördüğüm buydu; birçok araba, restoranları doldurmuş ve sadece çok iyi anladığım dillerde sohbet eden turistler, brrr. Daha sonra Mart 2005’te, havanın kapalı olduğu bir günde Göreme’yi tekrar ziyaret ettim, görünürde hiç turist yoktu, ben de köye adil bir şans vermeye karar verdim.
