Ahi Evren Dede Camii

The date of the mosque, which was built in the Boztepe District of Trabzon, is unknown. According to Şemsettin Sami, Ahi Evren had a dervish lodge built during the reign of Sultan Orhanon the spot of today's mosque and tomb. A mosque of the same name was later built here. This Ahi Evren Dede Mosque was repaired in 1888 and reached the present day. Two notices explain about the tombs in the complex. The first explains: It is named after Ahi Evren Dede, whose real name is reported to be Hasan Ebul Hakayik. He was from the Ahi Sect, who came to spread Islam during the reign of Sultan Orhan Gazi (1326-1362). According to sources, Ahi Evren Dede was 67 years old in 1351 when he was martyred. His grave was determined spiritually [so: no proof beyond the conviction of the finder] by Hacı Hakkı Baba from under a walnut tree in Maşatlık and transferred to this tomb built in his name. The second describes Hacı Hakkı Baba, born in 1795 in the Akcaabat district of Trabzon. He is from the Qadiri Sect and one of the Chief Muezzins of Sultan Abdul Aziz. During the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid, the Sultan of the period, he had this Mosque and Tomb built in the 1880s, with the help of 900 gold coins from the treasury. Rumor has it that he died in 1883 during a morning prayer at the Pazarkapı Mosque. He was buried at the feet of Ahi Evren Dede upon his will. It is said that the graves of women on both sides belong to daughters or followers.
