St. Albans Messenger Article on Kate

The St. Albans Messenger started covering Kate's softball career when she was 12 and her underdog Georgia-St.Albans teammates became Vermont State Champions and made an improbable run through the Eastern Regionals of the Little League World Series in Deleware -- with "a wisp of a girl" Kate, complete with little round glasses, bringing heat on the mound as a student of Coach Everet Johnson. They covered the next year, when the Fairfax-Fletcher-Georgia-Westford-St. Albans All-Stars took another Vermont championship and made a similar run through the Eastern Regionals of the Junior League World Series in Syracuse with Kate sharing the mound with her respected rival Shila. They covered her play alongside Shila, Heather, Whitney and the rest of the Vermont Rockets in ASA ball around New England and up into Canada. They covered her pitching for Coach Bert Berthiaume's BFA Comets on their way to a 40-0 record in back-to-back Vermont Division I High School Division I Championships. They've kept an eye on her during her four years playing Division II college ball for the Purple Knights at St. Michael's as she transitioned from pitching to centerfield to shortstop -- culminating in the following story put together by Josh Kaufman. Thanks so much for all the coverage over the years!! For local coverage, there is simply no sports section like that of the St. Albans Messenger! Thanks also go out to the SMC Sports Info staff for putting together the press releases ...
