Inside Curve February 22

Jonathan Hamilton is an amazing, talented potter. I've bought more than a few pieces from him to give as gifts (and to keep for myself). He uses only local clay he digs himself rather than ordering it from an art supply company and mixes his own glazes. I like the pieces that still show the imprint of his fingers made as the pottery wheel turned and he formed the centered clay into something more than it was before. I interviewed both Jonathan and his wife, Meg, several years ago and photographed him at work. Meg creates handmade jewelry (and yes, I've bought her pieces too). This is one of his pieces, a pitcher, green glazed, about 18" tall.

The lighting is really fine in this shot.

I like that you have focussed on the detail of the jug, and resisted the temptation to take the whole in... Your words and picture compliment each other and I can imagine him making this.

Donna, I like the light and dark bands created on the handle they give the curve depth. The shape could be so many things, half a heart, an inverted teardrop, hmmm perhaps there is a theme building here.

He is very skilled from what I can tell on this image. I love how nicely you captured the inside of the curve. The smoothness of the material and the angle from which you took this photograph.
