Paper wasp nests fascinate me. Both delicate and strong - like some people. I watched this one being built outside my bedroom window and was astonished at how creatures with such tiny brains could be so incredibly precise in what they did and how they constructed this nest. It clung there all summer. I left it alone; they left me alone. Reverse symbiosis? I found it yesterday laying on the deck. It had clung under the gutter through summer storms, high winds and one effort to power wash it down. As long as the wasps remained, it stayed up. I don't know when they left, but once abandoned, the nest also seemed to give up and fell.
