Pick-up Bears November 14

A few years ago a wild black bear wandered around my neighborhood for about a month. Many people spotted it and so I went out deliberately early in the morning and at dusk trying to spot it and take a photo. Last week I wondered if the area had gotten too developed for bears to take up even temporary residence again - and then, in the newspaper, was a report that a quarter mile from my house a bear had been hit by a car. I was sad for the loss of the bear - and then the photographer in me kicked in and I lamented that I'll probably never get my 'bear shot.'
Today, driving down 340 into town, I spotted this in the back of a pick-up truck. They waved. I am counting this as my 'bear shot' though they don't look particularly wild.

The more I look at this shot, the stranger it looks. It reminds me of an old movie - you know, the scenes where almost everything is fake except one element (like two people in a "car"). The dof is interesting in an odd sort of way, but given that it's three wooden bears in a pick-up truck .. I think it works.

This is why you always need a camera in your car!

Hmmm... I thought the bag limit was one. And isn't that a Pennsylvania plate? Damn them poachin' outsiders!

(Glad to know that I'm not the only one who drives with a camera at the ready. Wonder which one of us first lands in a ditch -- or in jail.)

Congrats on getting your bear shot. Good to have a camera handy at all times. You never know what will turn up!
Cheers,

The depth of the photo has me staring at it for an inordinate amount of time. It creates an 'out of place' feel of things that complements three wooden bears strapped into the bed of a pickup rather well. Kudos, D. :)
