Juliana and Rose Gum

Juliana helped Rupert and I find and measure this tree hidden in rainforest five years after they last visited it.
Rupert marked this tree when it was a small sapling that came up after fire burnt into the rainforest in 2002. In this photo, it is 15 years old.
There's an interesting ecological story around this tree, which you can read, 4th paper down at: https://www.nqnat.org/volume/volume-48/2018 .

That is a fast grower! Interesting. I always feel like a tree appreciates the hug I give it.

What a great shot of this exuberant tree hugger :)
PS It takes close to 100 years for our pines to get to this size :(

Wonderful photo! Incredible fast growth. Interesting paper. I also just read on wiki the rose gum record height is 282 ft and they can grow 23 ft in the first year! Never thought of gums as being that big - must be the rainforest connection.

What a great "tree-hugger" capture, and interesting information in your narrative and the abstract.
