Open forest of Lemon-scented Gum, Pink Bloodwood and Inland White Mahogany on red soils of volcanic origin.
Technical note: This is an unusual combination of species and soil because Lemon-scented Gum and Inland White Mahogany don’t usually occur on volcanic soils.
In this area at least, they are generally found on the more infertile clays of granitic or metamorphic origin.
This is Queensland Regional Ecosystem 7.8.17, listed as being “of concern” because there was only ever less than 1,000 ha of it and a fair bit of that has been cleared for agriculture.
This stand is on crown land (state forest, I think). The tree species are, respectively from those listed in the caption above, Corymbia citriodora, C. intermedia and E. mediocris (also known as E. portuensis).
